Abstract
Student journals can increase faculty and learner inquiry and reflection about teaching and outcomes in distance courses. For faculty, journal contents can be used as formative and/or summative assessments for pedagogy and learning outcomes. For learners, these assignments can be used as self-assessments and ask them to reflect upon their own learning and which pedagogical methods are most effective for them.
