Haven't sent you anything for many years; I had a long letter in (I think) Issue #2, but I've been reading and subscribing all along.
I wanted to thank Tom Krehbiel for his "Surveying the Soundscape" item on "DTV vs. TV." This is something I've been saying for years! I even sent a letter to my Congressperson about this issue when the "all-digital by 2006" mandate was first publicized and received a "don't worry about it; it's too far in the future" response. Well, it's not that far away now, and the problem still exists. You can buy a little analog TV for $30-$50 now, and the vast majority of TVs are, as Tom said, ordinary $100-$200 models. I don't think that a digital conversion box itself will ever be as cheap as an analog TV is now, and the thought of what will happen to all the existing analog TVs when (or if) DTV eliminates analog is upsetting.
