Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) - Enraged Batswana took to the streets Friday in a peaceful protest march against rising incidences of rape in the country.
The placard waving men, women and children marched through the streets of the capital Gaborone to parliament buildings where they handed a petition to the speaker of the national assembly, Ray Mlomo.
The petition demanded stiffer penalties against rapists, that rape cases be heard in camera and defilement of minors be treated as rape cases to attract equally tougher penalties.
They also called for the re-education of police officers and judges to enable them handle these cases sensitively.
