Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) - Ivorian Prime Minister Pascal Affi N'Guessan has enjoined Public Service trade in the country to call off a strike initiated two weeks ago to press for a pay raise.
At a meeting Thursday in Abidjan with union leaders, N'Guessan averred that "the situation in Cote d'Ivoire has improved," but added that "we are not out of the woods yet."
The Prime Minister said salary increases was not feasible before 2003.
"Increasing salaries is important for us, but this not the moment," he affirmed, as he sought to calm the tension that has been rising in the last two weeks within civil service workers.
He reminded the unionists that Cote d'Ivoire needs 104 billion francs CFA (136 million US dollars) to settle the domestic debt, noting ...
