Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - Nigeria's federal government has lost its bid to stop a Cameroonian group from pursuing a suit, which it filed in Abuja last week, challenging Nigeria's refusal to present before the World Court and the UN General Assembly, its (group's) claim to self-determination.
Chief Justice of the federal High Court, Roseline Ukeje, on Thursday rejected Nigeria's preliminary objection to the case, declaring that the Court had the jurisdiction to hear the case, brought by the Southern Cameroon Peoples Organisation (SCAPO).
Fanny Bebu, an official of the federal Health Ministry had challenged the Court's jurisdiction to entertain the suit on the ground that it was not proper in law for SCAPO to come to the country and institute the action seeking to compel the government to interfere in its domestic affairs.
