Paris, France (PANA) - Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has called on the Commonwealth Summit opening in Australia Saturday to expel Zimbabwe from its ranks over alleged violation of press freedom in the country.
The France-based rights group, said the Commonwealth eight-nation Action Committee (Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Botswana, Canada, Britain, Malaysia and Nigeria) should recommend Harare's expulsion to the Summit of the 54-nation British-led Organisation.
RSF Secretary General, Robert Menard described Zimbabwe as "one of the most repressive countries in the entire African continent when it comes to press freedom".
The NGO noted that in 2001, President Robert Mugabe's government arrested some 30 journalists, while others were threatened or assaulted.
