MANILA, May 1 Asia Pulse - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and members of the Cabinet have approved the Tourism Development Strategies (TDS) which would identify strategic tourist destinations in the country.
The Tourism Development Strategies were presented by Tourism Secretary Richard Gordon to the Cabinet during its meeting held Tuesday at Malacaang's State Dining Room.
In a press briefing later this afternoon at Malacaang, Acting Press Secretary Silvestre Afable said the strategies "set the targets to attract more tourists, build priority zones, and intensify the involvement of local governments in the tourism program."
Afable said the Cabinet approved the following goals which are specifically contained in the TDS: from 2000 to 2010, an increase in the number of international arrivals from two million to three million a year; an increase in tourism-oriented jobs from three million to six million in 2010; an increase in the contribution of tourism to the gross domestic product from $7 billion to $17 billion in ten ...
