TAIWAN JUSTICE MINISTER ANNOUNCES SOFTWARE PIRACY CRACKDOWN.
TAIPEI, May 1 Asia Pulse - Minister of Justice Chen Ding-nan announced Tuesday that law enforcement authorities will intensify a crackdown on software piracy for the rest of the year.
He told reporters that more than 800 prosecutors affiliated with over 20 district prosecutors' offices will be mobilized to join the battle against acts that infringe upon intellectual property rights.
To coincide with the announcement, Chen also instructed organs under the jurisdiction of his ministry to stop using unlawful software.
He noted that Taiwan was dubbed a "kingdom of piracy" decades ago, but said the advanced countries displayed tolerance because Taiwan was poor at the time.
