Australia's financial contribution to a joint South African-Australian programme to train African trade negotiators "set an example" for the European Union and the United States, the New National Party (NNP) said on Friday. In a statement, NNP spokesman Francois Beukman welcomed Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer's announcement that Australia would assist with the special training programme, to be held in South Africa in May. "While the industrialised nations have huge delegations at the various trade rounds, including specialist advisers, the developing countries have to struggle to attract specialist and skilled advisers," Beukman said.
