A police detective was wounded by a sniper bullet on Friday while taking part in a crime crackdown operation, North Rand police said. Inspector M G Magopane, who was attacked in Daveyton, was taken to hospital where he was in a stable condition, said Superintendent Eugene Opperman. During Friday's operation a team of 70 detectives, including Magopane, arrested 65 people, all of whom allegedly committed crime some six or seven years ago, Opperman said.
