A sulphuric acid spill on the N1 north highway in Roodepoort caused chaos on Friday morning, Johannesburg emergency management services (EMS) said. Early morning traffic was disrupted when a truck carrying about 10000 litres of sulphuric acid started leaking between the Maraisburg and Gordon Road off-ramps shortly after 6am. The truck was en route to Zambia. EMS workers together with Wastetech's hazardous material support services were still on scene trying to repair the leak. Spokesman Gavin Wilson said shortly before 10.30am that two lanes of the road were open to traffic. The emergency and slow lanes were closed.
