The April 1st London Guardian reported: "Serbia issued arrest warrants yesterday for its president ... and three other former aides to Slobodan Milosevic, hours before the US deadline for it to cooperate with the Hague war crimes tribunal or forfeit $120 million in aid.... Their arrest and extradition to the tribunal is seen in Washington as the price for continued US aid."
This is not the first time that the Bush administration has blackmailed Serbia into cooperating with the UN's "justice" system. In 2001, the Bush administration threatened to withhold aid unless the Serbian government arrested and imprisoned former ruler Slobodan Milosevic, and eventually surrendered him to the UN for trial (see the item entitled "Blackmailing Yugoslavia" in our June 18, 2001 issue).
