In the latest addition to her valuable series, which includes The Baroque Spirit and The Romantic Spirit, Nancy Bachus introduces music students to the classical period. As with her other volumes, this well-researched collection provides a wide variety of valuable information for students. A mixture of text and music, it is a welcome addition to the series.

The pieces chosen by Bachus for this collection are refreshing and carefully edited. Lesser-known pieces by familiar composers comprise the majority of the early-intermediate to intermediate repertoire.
