In this issue we share news from Ronald Shinn, NCTM, Alabama MTA president and Susan Naylor, NCTM, Georgia MTA president.
The Alabama Music Teachers Association (AMTA) will celebrate its 50th anniversary this upcoming June 6-8, 2002, through a number of conference activities and through exciting appearances by guest artist Jose Feghali and clinician Maurice Hinson, NCTM. AMTA has recently established a tax-exempt endowed fund, interest from which will be used to support the activities of state conferences, specifically to assist in funding the annual guest artist and guest clinician. Also, some of the interest eventually may be used to bolster the student scholarships. AMTA proudly continues the Composer Commissioning Program (Dorothy Hindman of Birmingham-Southern, 2002 recipient) and the Teacher of the Year Award (Mary Jane Scruggs of Mobile, 2001 recipient).
