VICTORIA -- A bill to improve environmental enforcement activities across British Columbia was introduced in the legislature today by Water, Land and Air Protection Minister Joyce Murray.
Amendments to the Environment Management Act will consolidate the enforcement powers of conservation officers into a single statute.
Under existing legislation, the enforcement powers of conservation officers are spelled out in 22 separate statutes that are not consistent in granting enforcement powers. This has led to an inefficient system that requires multiple administrative processes to support environmental enforcement.
Under the proposed amendments, all of the statutes that grant powers of enforcement to conservation officers will now be listed in the act. This will help ...
