More tight-turning machines. Tractors from John Deere and Yard-Man are the latest "zero-turn-radius" models, which can turn 360-degree circles in one place and squeeze into spots only slightly larger than the space they occupy. That helps them sneak around trees and other obstacles, and make U-turns at the ends of rows.
More ways to steer them. Unlike front-steering tractors, zero-turn-radius models are steered by slowing or reversing one rear wheel while speeding up the other. Older designs use two steering levers, one for each rear wheel. The John Deere Spin-Steer SST-16 is the first such model with a steering wheel.
