It's time we gave dishwashers a little credit for doing what they're designed to do: wash dishes--and wash them well--without a helping hand from us. Yet two out of three consumers still rinse dishes in the sink before loading them into the dishwasher, even though that extra step wastes time, water, and the energy required to heat that water.
And it doesn't get dishes a whit cleaner. When we tested 31 dishwashers ranging in price from $300 to $1,575, we found that all but 7 did an excellent job of cleaning a full load of very dirty dishes, glasses, and flatware that had not been rinsed off first.
