Know the choices. Low-power binoculars are light and easy to handle. Higher-powered models give you range, but they're heavy and can be hard to hold steady. An 8x40 pair of binoculars is a good all-around choice. Bushnell and Tasco are the biggest manufacturers, but you can also find binoculars with names like Bausch & Lomb, Canon, Celestron, and Nikon.
