With many clothes--from pants to shirts to kids' wear--you now have a choice: Do you buy the kind with a little spandex (Lycra) or not?
Spandex can make clothing, especially close-fitting designs cut from woven fabrics, more comfortable to wear because it allows the material to "give."
But we discovered two drawbacks when we tested a variety of cotton and cotton-blend shirts that contained up to 5 percent spandex:
