He saw her for the first time at a Christian camp, talking to friends. He was 17 and she was 16, and maybe she was avoiding him, unlike all the other girls who couldn't flirt enough with this dark-haired, handsome star quarterback. Still, he knew.

On the last day of the camp, he maneuvered himself next to her and worked up enough courage to ask this pretty blonde for her phone number. They both lived in Bakersfield, Calif., but they attended different high schools. She figured he never would call.
