BEIJING, April 1 Asia Pulse - China has 119 aluminium smelters at present, compared with 53 in 1995. They produced 3.38 million tons of aluminium in 2001, compared with 1.68 million tons in 1995.
Among the smelters, eight produced over 100,000 tons in 2001; nine, 50-100,000 tons; and the rest, below 50,000 tons. Average capacity is 28,400 tons per smelter.
China's aluminium electrolysis capacity has reached about 3.8 million tons. And 4.16 million tons will be added if all projects now in construction and already approved are to go ahead. ...
