HANOI, April 1 Asia Pulse - The Vietnam Cashew Association (VNCA) reports the sector has targeted an export mark of 40,000 tonnes this year, a 2000 tonne increase over last year.
The majority of the increase is expected to come from traditional importers.
The United States has lowered the import duty imposed on cashews to zero per cent since the end of 2001, down from US$0.044 per kg previously, providing a likely boost.
China is also expected to import from Vietnam between 15,000-16,000 tonnes a year, up from 14,000-15,000 tonnes.
This year, these two clients alone will consume 80 per cent of Vietnam's cashew exports.
Some new markets tapped in Iran, Arabian Saudi and Russia last year will also be targeted.
According to international cashew distributors and exporters, Vietnamese cashew exports fully meet US and European requirements.
