TOKYO, April 1 Asia Pulse - Construction machinery shipments fell 17.7 per cent year-on-year in February to 89.2 billion yen (US$672 billion), the 17th straight month of decline, according to figures released by the Japan Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association.
The drop was highlighted by a 45.7 per cent plunge in domestic sales of power shovels. Overall, domestic shipments fell 33 per cent to 45.6 billion yen, the first month since May 1998 that the rate of decline has exceeded 30 per cent.
