The Best of ... So Far. (Carousel Corner).
Ringo Starr and His All Start Band, The Best of ... So Far (Image Entertainment). What began as a novelty in 1989 has grown into one of the more anticipated summer events with each succeeding year. The original All Starr Band featured Jim Keltner, Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Dr. John, Billy Preston, Nils Lofgren, Joe Walsh, and Clarence Clemmons. Whew! The DVD showcases them as well as the '92, '95, and '97 bands, which featured Todd Rundgren, Felix Cavaliere, Randy Bachman, Jack Bruce, Peter Frampton (who croons a lovely "Norwegian Wood"), Gary Brooker, and Simon Kirke. Ringo's ever affable, relaxed format includes his Beatle vocals ("Act Naturally", "Yellow Submarine") as well as his solo hits ("Photograph", "It Don't Come Easy"), but offers each of his sidemen center stage with numbers from either their band (Levon Helm's "The Weight") or solo (Dr. John's frenetic, fantastic "Iko-Iko").
