"Physicians' acceptance and adoption of emerging technologies will drive the transformation of the health care industry. Twenty-three percent of all physicians report they interact with their patients by e-mail, up only 4% from [2000]. Of doctors not currently e-mailing their patients, 79% indicated that their preference for `face-to-face' communication was the primary reason for not interacting with patients online. Of those physicians, 54% say insurance reimbursement is the leading driver for them to e-mail their patients in the future (Table 1).
