State session heads for OT; Legislators admit they need more time to work on budget differences.(A SECTION)

TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida Legislature is moving toward its first overtime session in more than six years as legislative leaders conceded Wednesday that they need more time to work out differences in the $49 billion state budget.

But lawmakers expect to wrap up the other major issues, including redistricting and a review of the state tax code, before the 60-day session's scheduled end Friday. If House and Senate members have to return to Tallahassee for more work on the budget, they said they expected to conclude the negotiations quickly.

"We may be getting close," said Senate Rules Chairman Tom Lee, R-Brandon. "Everybody's getting enough of what they need to be willing to actually go home."

"I'm more optimistic today than I was yesterday," said Gov. Jeb Bush.
