Consumers will get a break on their energy bills under an agreement announced Thursday between Florida Power & Light and the state's public counsel.
The deal, negotiated by the utility, Florida Public Counsel Jack Shreve and a coalition of some of the state's largest energy users, represents a 7 percent base-rate reduction and savings of about $1 billion for FPL's 3.9 million customers during the next four years.
A fuel clause also requires FPL to return about $200 million to consumers. That money already was collected when FPL expected fuel costs would be even higher.
