MINNEAPOLIS -- Mike Vekich, Minnesota businessman and former chair of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees announced his withdrawal from the Republican race for Governor of Minnesota.
Mike Vekich (Vek-ich) 54, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, is withdrawing today because he said, "In order to run a statewide campaign it will take massive amounts of money to get our message out."
Vekich said, "Minnesota needs a Governor who can unite Republicans, Democrats and Independents and establish a public-private partnership that will strengthen our economy."
Vekich went on to state, "My campaign has drawn support from all political parties and age groups. The response to my message of bringing people together to help solve our state's problems has been very well received.
"It would have cost almost a million dollars, at a minimum, to go into a primary. The other candidates will have spent much more than our supporters could have raised."
Mike Vekich, who announced his bid over seven months ago, has stressed the need for Minnesota's Governor to work with and unite Republicans, Democrats and Independents to restore Minnesota to its greatness.
His campaign has stressed his extensive business experience as Chief Executive Officer of his own company. Mike has been a member of the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants, and headed his own 26 member firm.
