This month, Sandra Bullock makes her fourth appearance on our cover. It's been fascinating for me to observe her trajectory over the years from comedic girl next door to the searching, darkly nuanced artist who plays Harper Lee in Douglas McGrath's Infamous. As Robert Sullivan tells us, Bullock went to considerable lengths to master the Monroeville, Alabama, dialect and at all times saw the funny side of following closely in the footsteps of her friend Catherine Keener (who was brilliant as Lee in Capote).
