CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS: G Jocelyn Thibault remains the beast of burden, so G.M. Mike Smith might seek an upgrade for Thibault's backup, a job now held by Steve Passmore. The team got a look at Panthers G Trevor Kidd before the break. The question: Can it find someone better for the right terms? Defense is a concern, but Steve McCarthy doesn't fit. The team's 1999 first-round pick and long its best prospect, McCarthy flopped in every chance to make the roster, and he is playing poorly in the minors. Look for McCarthy to be bundled with a veteran to get a role player for the stretch.
