Victoria's child protection laws are letting down children who speak out about their abuse, according to research released in early February.
The study, undertaken by researchers at Monash University for the children's charity Australians Against Child Abuse found many cases of child abuse are going unreported because professionals who work with children are unclear of their legal obligations to notify protection authorities.
Researchers found one-third of health, welfare and education professionals failed to report a case of child abuse in the past six months despite having a considerable degree of suspicion.
