HANOI, March 1 Asia Pulse - Japan has offered to help Vietnam update its quarantine system through training and supplying equipment as part of efforts to raise the quality of agricultural exports, said a Japanese senior official.
Japanese Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Tsutomu Takebe made this statement at a working session with Vietnamese Deputy Trade Minister Mai Van Dau during the latter's visit to Japan from Feb. 21-27.
Minister Tsutomu Takebe affirmed that Vietnam has great potential as a producer and exporter of vegetables, fruit, aquatic products, and rice, adding that with higher quality these products will be accepted by the Japanese market and other markets.
The Vietnamese delegation also had working sessions with Noboru Hatakeyama, Chairman of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO); Kenji Miyahara, Chairman of the Japanese sector to the Japan-Vietnam Economic Committee under the Japanese Federation of Economic Organisations (Keidanren); senior officials of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry; and representatives from 20 business groups and corporations operating in Vietnam.
