TOKYO, March 1 Asia Pulse - The US-based interactive television company OpenTV has announced it is joining Japan Cable Laboratories to help develop standards for digital cable TV technology in the Japanese cable market.
Japan Cable Laboratories was established to accelerate the deployment of digital cable and enhance cable TV technology by developing relevant systems and equipment, improving customer convenience and gathering information.
OpenTV has been active in adapting its technology to meet Japanese standards since joining the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB) in March 2000, according to a company statement.
Recently, Matsushita (Panasonic) announced it had selected OpenTV's HTML technology, Device Mosaic(TM), to develop an integrated browser comprised of HTML and BML technology for enhanced, on-demand interactive applications that are BML compliant.
BML is Japan's standard mark-up language for the digital broadcast industry.
