Joann Winkler earned the Charlotte County Teacher of the Year Award she received yesterday.

Winkler, a 26-year veteran of the classroom, is an educational enthusiast. She is a strong advocate of literacy programs, many of which she employs in her fourth- grade class at Liberty Elementary School. She's an exemplary recipient of the annual award.

Like many teachers in Florida, Winkler has earned more than accolades during her career but has received less in compensation and credit.
