Long-established family firm Wallis Haulage has decided to shut up shop because it just cannot attract enough drivers, despite advertising for months.

The Swanley-based company, which has been trading for 35 years, blamed the driver shortage for its decision to pull out of haulage. With just five drivers on board there was no way of fulfilling one of its main contracts which really needed about 13 drivers, according to Wallis management.

A comprehensive advertising campaign locally in Kent and in London attracted only a couple of responses. 'Nobody wants to drive any more,' a Wallis manager told T&D. 'Drivers are very fussy about what they drive and are …
