Commercial Lenders Keep Growing.(Industry Overview)(Statistical Data Included)

Midland Loan Services, Kansas City, Mo., emerged the top servicer of commercial mortgages for 2001 with a $68 billion portfolio, according to an survey by the Mortgage Bankers Association of America. But the nation's biggest commercial servicer, GMAC Commercial Mortgage, does not participate in the survey.

Still, the survey shows that the biggest are getting bigger. CapMark Services, Atlanta, emerged the second largest servicer on the list, with a portfolio of $64.4 billion, the MBA reports.

Also in the list of top five servicers were GEMSA Loan Services, Houston; Wachovia Securities, Charlotte, N.C.; and ORIX Capital Markets, Dallas, with servicing portfolios of $54.5 billion, $48.1 billion and $37.6 billion, respectively. Together, those five servicers manage over $270 billion in loans.
