Few players hurt themselves more in the week of practice leading to last Saturday's Senior Bowl than LSU QB Rohan Davey. After saying he planned to come in weighing 240 pounds, Davey tipped the scales at 251--and turned off a number of NFL coaches and scouts. By the looks of his frame and the inaccuracy of his throws, it's easy to assume Davey took a vacation after his team's big win in the Sugar Bowl rather than training for what could be the most important week of the draft process.... Fresno State QB David Carr had a great week of practice at the Senior Bowl and now could be the first player taken in the draft. He displayed a stronger arm and better accuracy than Joey Harrington had in similar passing drills before the East-West Shrine Game.... While other all-star games allow players to play in their college positions, the Senior Bowl urges them to play the positions that scouts project them to play in the NFL. Indiana's Antwaan Randle EI and Clemson's Woodrow Dantzler, for instance, were allowed to play their college position, quarterback, at the East-West Game but were told to move to their projected positions, wide receiver and running back, respectively, in Mobile. The move paid off for both players. Randle El looked spectacular running routes and catching the ball, and Dantzler showed good running skills, though he wasn't real smooth in his blocking or route running. But at least by playing the position, Dantzler was able to allow scouts to grade him as a running back prospect rather than just estimate what he can do.... It looks like Southern California's Antuan Simmons might be a player without a position. After missing most of his fourth year at USC with a nearly fatal stomach ailment, Simmons returned for a fifth year and was moved from cornerback to safety. But he struggled in that role. ...
