For many consumers, a TV set that measures 27, 32, or 36 inches is big enough for enjoyable viewing yet small enough to fit in a modest-sized room. In this report, we rate 60 direct-view (nonprojection) TVs in those three sizes. We found very good 27- and 32-inch sets for under $600 and fine 36-inch TVs for under $1,000.
Sixteen of the sets were newly tested for this update; 43 were first reviewed in our December 2001 issue; the Hitachi 32UX01S, in March 2001.
