* Laser printers get cheaper, smaller, and faster. Two of the tested models cost only $200, narrowing the price gap between lasers and most inkjet printers. Lasers are more compact than their predecessors, with some as small as 9x13x14 inches--similar in size to inkjets. The typical print speed in this class has climbed since previous reports, thanks largely to increased memory that lets the printers process pages more quickly. All five laser printers in the Ratings printed text at roughly 7 to 8 pages per minute (ppm), faster than in previous tests.
