LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 2002

(Standard & Poor's)--Standard & Poor's said today that its ratings on U.K.-based CNA Insurance Co. (Europe) Ltd. (CIE; A-/Watch Neg/--) and U.K.-based Maritime Ins. Co. Ltd. (Maritime; A-/Watch Neg/--) would be lowered if approval from the guarantor's regulator for additional parental support in the form of a guarantee is not forthcoming.
