ITEM: North Korea "threatened to build up its military forces in response to Washington's 'strong-arm 'policies against the unpredictable communist state," reported the Financial Times for December 4th. Continued FT: "Any sign that North Korea was bolstering its military would be seized by hawkish elements of the US administration currently lobbying for a tough stance against 'rogue statues.'"
North Korea's tirades, claimed the paper, "have been balanced recently by several conciliatory gestures to the international community, demonstrating the erratic nature of Kim Jon g-It's 's regime....
"Antony Stokes, political secretary of the British Embassy in Seoul, warned against too much being read into North Korea 's aggressive language, arguing it was more bluster than substance."
