OFFSEASON ... SO FAR: The team acquired two experienced starting pitchers when it signed RHP Aaron Sele (15-5, 3.60 ERA last season) to a three-year deal worth $24 million and traded 1B Mo Vaughn to the Mets for RHP Kevin Appier (11-10, 3.57). Sele and Appier essentially replace RHPs Pat Rapp and Ismael Valdes and should take pressure off the three they will join in the rotation: LHP Jarrod Washburn, RHP Ramon Ortiz and LHP Scott Schoeneweis. All five starters won at least 10 games last season. Sele has more wins over the past four years (69) than any A.L. pitcher. Grade: B
