At age 50, Minneapolis resident Jacqueline Hamlett Capp might seem a little old for an art student with professional ambitions. But after a profoundly discouraging experience decades ago with an art class she took at Indiana's DePauw University (more on that later), and with a 20-year career in dentistry behind her, she is now bent on becoming a portrait painter. Vain illusion? Maybe not. One of her pictures, a portrait of a pensive young woman that shows her reflection in a window, took a prize earlier this year at a convention of the American Society of Portrait Artists, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
