INDIAN RAILWAYS POSTS 7.6 PCT INCREASE IN FREIGHT IN H1.
NEW DELHI, Jan 1 Asia Pulse - An over four per cent rise ingoods traffic in August and September alone this year enabled Indian Railways to register an impressive 7.6 per cent increase in freight to 39.05 million tonnes (MT) in the first half of 2001-02 as compared to 36.28 MT in the same period a year ago.
Total revenue-earning goods traffic stood at 39.05 MT in September, 2001 as compared to 37.47 MT in July same year - an increase of 4.22 per cent - despite a marginal fall in Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) movement in August and September, the latest official figures released by the Federal Ministry of Finance said here.
