The Singapore economy is expected to turn in a sharper performance over the next five months, buoyed by an improved US economic performance and a pick-up in consumer demand, results of two separate government surveys showed.

In a morale booster for Singapore, whose economy was hit badly by the SARS outbreak, a weighted 30 percent of manufacturing firms surveyed said they expected business conditions in the sector to improve from October to March, the Economic Development Board (EDB) said.

Only eight percent predicted a decline
