Randy McMichael

TE, Dolphins

VS.

Mike Doss

SS, Colts

Doss fits the Colts' cover 2 defense perfectly. The rookie is big and strong enough to play close to the line and be aggressive against the run, but he also is athletic and instructive enough to help out in pass coverage as a two-deep safety.

The best weapon to neutralize a cover 2 strong safety is an athletic tight end such as McMichael, who has developed into amore consistent playmaker in his second season. When you have a tight end with the speed to get down the seam and the hands to catch the ball over his shoulders and on the run like McMichael does, it puts the cover 2 safety in a jam in certain situations.
