WASTE management company Greenstar has been granted planning permission for a huge landfill dump in East Galway, but residents' groups immediately said they wouldappeal the decision.
The application was granted subject to 26 conditions. The landfill site has been restrictedto an annual tonnage of 70,000 for 10 years.
Conditions of the planning permission also specify that waste dumped at the Kilconnell site must have been generated within Galway county and city.
Residents in the area had bitterly opposed the application, and members of the KilconnellAnti-Dump group said they would appeal the decision.
Greenstar has emerged as the largest commercial landfill operator and waste collection company in Ireland, according to Davy analyst Florence O'Donoghue.
