WESTON-super-Mare's Liberal Democrat MP, Brian Cotter, wants to stand for election for a fourth time.

Mr Cotter first stood in the resort in 1992 when he failed to win but dramatically cut the majority of Weston's then Conservative MP Sir Jerry Wiggin.

Five years later he caused a sensation when he took the previously true blue town from the Tories.

Mr Cotter, aged 65, who lives in Congresbury with his wife, Eyleen, beat the strong favourite, former Somerset MEP Margaret Daly, into second place by a 1,274 vote margin.

The shock result ended more than 70 years of Tory domination in the resort.
