AS introductions go, my first conversation with Lesley Felix takes some beating.

"I'm waiting for the Grim Reaper, " he said, followed by a raucous laugh.

"There's no point in being frightened by something you can't change."

A month after our unconventional telephone interview, we're talking face-to-face at his home at Bedminster Down.

"That's for your One in Four Campaign, " he said, forcing a GBP20 note into my hand. "I always give money to good causes involving cancer."

To look at Lesley Felix, it's easy to forget that he's terminally ill.

He was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2001 and an operation at the Bristol Royal Infirmary had appeared to cure the problem.
