THERE used to be many Philippine food items that could be eaten only in this country-fresh mango, daing, tuyo, sardines, Lily's peanut butter, Barrio Fiesta bagoong, Via Mare Bibingka, Daza delights, etc. Today, all that has changed: Many bottled, frozen and canned items are exported around the world.

Fabulous taste

One item that has made an impact in the Pinoy market abroad is tuyo. A company in Bacolod came up with the brilliant idea of deboning the tiny salted fish and soaking it in marinade with corn oil.

Apart from the fabulous taste, it is convenient to eat and is a great gift for homesick Pinoys abroad. They call it "Gourmet Tuyo." There's also chopped tuyo with mushrooms, olives, capers and other spices.
